Racing game without dice Journal
Journal 1
I am making this racing game without dice with Hisham Jarad. So our original idea was inspired by F1 Formula. In our game concept, players will drive racing cards in a loop and players can control how fast they want to race or which path they want to take when they are turning. Rach racing car’s wheel got its own heath. The Player’s speed or path they drive will have a direct effect on these wheels. When a racing car’s wheel runs out of health, the player will need to stop for turns or the player can go to the repair station to change a wheel. Player has total control of what they want to race, and we want to build some tactics into the game rather than too many random possibilities. The initial draft is attached below.

In the second Journal
We perfect the original draft by adding more mechanics and design to the old version. When it comes to the curve path, players could change paths or overcome others. On the other hand, if it’s the straight path, the player cannot change the path until the next curve. If a player wants to speed, he will receive a punishment. For example, if the player wants to move 2 steps in one turn, he will cost 2*2 health. In the same principle, if he wants to speed up to move 3 steps at once, he will lose 3*3 health. We used the paper cupboard to produce a simple prototype that has all the basic mechanics, we need to test out if it’s functional or not. For example, do players have too little health that influences the “speedy” game experience? For the next Journal, we are aiming to produce the final version of our game with balanced data and mechanics.
Final Journal
We finished making our game by printing out all the pieces we need and drawing the map. We made a Video Recording attached below.
