Avoid and Collect Game

Basic Set-Up

Firstly I made a very simple concept of my game as the picture shows below. The background of the game is about a cowboy and his cargo got attacked by Bisons and his gold are all over the place.  He needs to recover his gold from that scattered Luggage and avoid those angry Bisons.

The core mechanics of this prototype is moving and collecting. The player could control the character to move around and collect the objects.

I build the basic map of the game; I want the game to be a fast-paced arcade game. So, the player could get access to the core gameplay immediately and less time roaming around. The purple block represents the player’s character, the cowboy.  Those Red blocks represent the stationary obstacle. The yellow squares are coins to collect. The blue block is the enemy. I am currently working on the movement of the enemy, trying to make them move in a settled line.

For the next Journal, I am aiming to create more enemies with more different paths and replace some of these blocks with pictures or images to make them look nicer.

Progression 1

In this Journal, I finished the path AI that follows a fixed path and I added some assets to the original version of the game. In the next patch, I am aiming to finish all the coding and mechanics.  I am planning to add an attack mechanics that allows players to destroy certain objects and collect items from them.  I will finish the animation of the main character and other buildings or assets.

Final Journal

In this Journal, I finished making all the game assets and coding. Firstly, I insert the assets of the game character and add a game instruction that allows to player to know the goal of the game. Then I add a counter to count the numbers of coins the player collect. Then I added two scenes, one is the victory scene and another one is the fail scene. If a player collects 10 coins, the game finishes and the player claim victory. But if the player collides with the bugs, the player will fail and need to restart the game again.
